Mt. Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak at 19,341'. It is located at the northeastern tip of Tanzania and is considered one of the "seven summits". The Shira route is a longer route ascending the summit from the back side of the mountain. Although this traverse requires no use of ropes or crampons, the primary hazard is the low oxygen at the high altitude. This ascent takes over six days, which will help the climbers acclimatize to the lower levels of oxygen.
